Workshop Overview:  This workshop will provide a conceptual framework to understand the requirements to become an equitable and inclusive psychological practice. We will share a set of behavioral agreements designed to create safety in cross cultural dialogues, as well as an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussion of difference. We will also provide a definition of oppression and its impact on and experience of groups that have been systematically excluded from full access to life chances and resources and groups have been historically included in life benefits and privileges. Participants in the workshop will explore new ways of thinking about diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as, engage in interactive small group discussions and exercises to their experience.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Acquire a conceptual framework to support equitable and inclusive practice in psychological settings;
  • Learn tools to address oppression at four levels: Personal, Interpersonal, Institutional and Cultural;
  • Broaden an understanding of oneself as a cultural being in developing relationships across multiple forms of difference;
  • Understand critical success factors in determining next steps to create a welcoming and inclusive practice
