DSM-5-TR: Updates for Providers

Workshop Overview: Changes in the DSM-5 to DSM-5-TR (released March 2022) include a new disorder, changes and clarifications for 70 disorders, and billing updates that include new IDC-10CM codes.  This seminar identifies and discusses revisions from the DSM-5 to the DSM-5-TR, while focusing on how the changes impact diagnosing, billing practices, strategies to address cultural changes, and application to real-world cases.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the changes made related to the DSM-5 and resources available to the newly released DSM-5-TR in practice
•  Describe the clarifications incorporated into the new DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria including the updated coding procedures
•  Identify how to incorporate the new criteria of the DSM-5-TR based on 'real world' cases

About the Presenter:   Dr. Fritson joined the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) as an Assistant Professor after serving as a part-time lecturer for two years.  Currently, as a tenured, Full Professor at UNK, she teaches the clinical track courses, including Psychopathology, Intro to Clinical Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and General Psychology while conducting research and engaging in service activities at UNK and the Kearney community. She has served for 18.5 years as a sponsor for UNK’s Psychology Club and PsiChi Chapter, and is the academic advisor for approximately 40 undergraduate psychology students every semester. Her current scholarly activity includes: the effects of COVID-19 on student athletes’ anxiety, depression, and sports; the effects of mindful meditation via mobile app on several mental health factors in law enforcement officers, projects regarding self-efficacy and journaling, student engagement, positive psychology programs’ effectiveness for promoting wellness in communities and using Mindful Meditation applications for wellness.

Dr. Fritson also works as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.  She serves as the Director for the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN)-Central, Clinical Director for the Central Nebraska LOSS Team, Supervising Practitioner for community counselors, provides consultation to mental health organizations, consults with high school and university sports teams, and maintains a small private practice.  She also volunteers for the HelpCare Clinic, Buffalo County Community Health Suicide Coalition Committee, the KPS Human Services & Education Small Learning Community Committee, Kearney Therapeutic Horseback Riding Advisory Board, and provides pro bono educational programs for the City of Kearney, local medical agencies, and other community groups.

Dr. Krista K. Fritson earned her doctoral degree at Forrest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, MO in 1997. In route to her Psy.D., Dr. Fritson earned her M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Fort Hays State University and her B.S. in General Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK).  While acquiring her formal education, Dr. Fritson worked in various roles in the mental health field and in a variety of settings since 1986. She has experience working with a variety of ages and mental/behavioral health diagnosis in a various setting, including inpatient hospitals, Treatment Group Homes, Residential Treatment, Day Treatment, and Outpatient services.

Costs:  COAP uses an online registration process that accepts credit and debit cards. The lowest registration rates are associated with early registration, we encourage you to sign up early to make sure you have a spot.  This workshop is limited to the first 95 participants who register.

We welcome all allied mental health practitioners to our workshops (at non-member registration rates); receiving Continuing Education credits from various Licensing Boards has not been problematic, assuming the topic meets your Board’s criteria.

**A $10 cancellation fee will be assessed for all cancellations. Registration fee will not be refunded for dissatisfaction with the training or for no-shows.
